Lon Dragt,
Lon started his firefighting career with Santa Clara Fire, in Eugene, where he volunteered for a little over 10 years raising through the ranks to Lieutenant. In 2010 Lon was selected as the Volunteer of the Year for Santa Clara Fire.
Lon then accepted a job with Goshen Fire where he stayed for a little over 2 years, where he developed a great working rapport with the various department and districts on the 58 corridor.
Lon then applied and was hired with Sutherlin Fire Department as the Assistant Chief in charge of Training. While there Lon assisted in the building of the Sutherlin Public Safety Program where he trained A few Sutherlin Police Officers as well as several Public Works employees in order to help build the volunteer numbers to provide Fire services to the community.
On May 1, 2017 Chief Dragt started with the Lowell Rural Fire Protection District where he worked with retiring Chief Keith Hoehn until June 30, 2017. At that time Lon took over full duties as the Fire Chief.
Chief Dragt and his family have moved into Lowell and plans on being part of this and the surrounding community for a long long time. Chief Dragt plans to continue to build the volunteer department that Chief Hoehn had been leading for 13 years. Chief Dragt hopes to build on to the resident program as well as a shift program for people that are thinking about a career in the Fire and or EMS system.
